Do I need council approval to demolish a house in NSW?
Yes. Demolition in NSW needs either a Development Application through your local council or a Complying Development Certificate through a private certifier, depending on the property and the zoning. You’ll also need to notify neighbours, arrange service disconnections for power, gas and water, and have a licensed asbestos removalist involved if the building was built before 1990. We handle the site side of this and can point you to what your council needs before we start.
How long does a house demolition take?
Once approvals are in place, a standard single-storey house in Sydney usually takes [2 to 5] days on site, including waste removal and leaving the block clear for your builder. Two-storey and commercial jobs take longer. Asbestos removal adds time because it has to be done first, under separate SafeWork NSW controls, before the machines come in. We give you a start and finish date at quote stage and stick to it.
